Trim Levels
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has nine available trim levels:
- Work Truck (WT)
- Custom
- Custom Trail Boss
- LT
- RST
- LT Trail Boss
- ZR2
- LTZ
- High Country
Performance
Powering the Silverado 1500 are four engine options. The base powertrain is a turbocharged 2.7-liter 310 horsepower four-cylinder mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This engine gets about 20 mpg city and 22 highway and offers about 9,500 pounds of towing capacity.
The other engine options include:- 5.3-liter 355 hp V8 with a 10-speed automatic transmission
- 6.2-liter 420 hp V8 with a 10-speed automatic transmission
- Turbocharged 3.0-liter 305 hp six-cylinder diesel engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission
As fuel economy goes, the EPA estimates the diesel engine gets about 23 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, while the two V-8 models get about 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg. Though the V-8 can tow about 11,500 pounds, the diesel engine can tow the maximum at 13,300 pounds.
Design
The exterior of the Silverado 1500 has a design like most other pickups on the market. But you'll find the biggest differences in its various bed and cabin configurations. The base Work Truck, for instance, has basic and essential features like manually adjustable front seats, manual locks, and windows, with a 6.5-foot bed. But higher trims like the High Country offer upscale features like leather upholstery, open-pore wood trim, a host of tech, and an optional eight-foot bed.
Technology
Though the cabins can be customized, there are many standard features found in everyone. Equipped in every Silverado 1500 is a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a mobile hotspot. Higher trims like the LT, RST, and LT Trail Boss utilize a larger 13.4-inch touchscreen with enhanced features like a Google-powered voice assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration.
Additional features include:
- Bed-view camera
- Heated rear seats
- Navigation system
- Advanced trailering system
- Wireless smartphone charging
Safety
Along with providing the Silverado 1500 with a host of technology, Chevy has given this pickup many advanced driver-aids. Though many of these features are offered in trims other than the base WT model.
Found in the LT, RST, LT Trail Boss are standard features like a surround-view camera system, trailer view camera system, trailer blind-spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic monitoring with automatic braking. Though for features such as adaptive cruise control, head-up display, rear camera mirror, and bed-view camera, you'll need to purchase the LTZ and High Country or the optional Technology Package.
